Holy Cross Downs Assumption 18-2

Worcester, Mass. - The Holy Cross baseball team snapped its five-game losing streak with an 18-2 win over cross-town rival Assumption College in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon at Tivnan Field. Junior second baseman Tucker Frawley 3-for-3 with two home runs, three RBI and three runs scored to lead the Crusaders, who are now 11-15 overall. Assumption falls to 5-20.

Ten Holy Cross players had two or more hits as the Crusaders scattered 24 hits on the afternoon, including five home runs. Senior Mike Schell sent a three-run shot to left field in the fourth inning and finished the day 3-for-3 with four RBI and three runs scored. Junior Tom Potvin was 2-for-6 with two RBI and a run scored, and sophomores Norm Roth and Brian Abraham combined to go 4-for-9 with four RBI and four runs scored.

The Crusaders put six runs on the board in the first inning and scored two runs in both the second and third innings to go up, 10-0 after three innings of play. A five-run fourth gave Holy Cross a 15-0 lead before Assumption spoiled the shutout with runs in the sixth and seventh innings.

Holy Cross starter Matt Blake went 3.0 innings, allowing just two hits. The win went to Kevin O'Dea (2-0) after he pitched 1.0 innings of relief, also giving up just two hits. Rory Ahern took the loss after lasting just 0.2 innings and allowing six runs (all earned) on four hits for the Greyhounds.

The Crusaders travel to Army tomorrow for a four-game weekend series with the Black Knights, starting Friday at 1:00 p.m.
