April 16, 2008
HANOVER, N.H. - Senior Kyle Lister (Lincoln, R.I.) went 3-for-4 at the plate including a double but it wasn't enough as the Holy Cross baseball team fell to Dartmouth, 11-5, in non-league action at Red Rolfe Field. The Crusaders fall to 15-20 on the season while the Big Green improves to 18-11.
Junior Jake Gorman (Norfolk, Mass.) put the Crusaders ahead 1-0 in the top of the first, hitting a one-out solo home run. Dartmouth answered back in the bottom of the inning as Nick Santomauro hit a two-run homer to right field. Dartmouth rallied in two more runs in the bottom of the third inning, grabbing a 4-1 lead over Holy Cross.
In the top of the sixth, freshman Brendan McCrea (Hicksville, N.Y.) brought the Crusaders within two runs after hitting a solo shot down the left field line. The Big Green rallied in seven more runs in the bottom of the inning, including a grand slam by Erik Bell.
Holy Cross drove in three runs in the top of the ninth as junior Tim Hughes (Andover, Mass.) singled up the right side, driving in sophomore Mike Galvin (Newport, R.I.) from second base. A sacrifice fly by junior Billy Cupelo (Franklin, Mass.) scored Lister and a single by sophomore Matt Perry (Sudbury, Mass.) drove in Hughes from second base.
The Crusaders return to action this weekend, April 19-20, at home with two Patriot League doubleheaders against Lafayette. The first games of the series will begin at noon.
