LEWISBURG, Pa. - Freshman Eric Oxford (Danvers, Mass.) went 5-for-8 on the day with three RBIs and two doubles but it not enough as the Holy Cross baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Bucknell, losing by scores of 3-0 and 7-6, this afternoon in Patriot League play. The Crusaders fall to 14-19 overall (7-5 Patriot League), while the Bison improve to 17-16-2 on the season (7-5 Patriot League). Bucknell won the four-game series, 3-1.
Freshman Brendan McCrea (Hicksville, N.Y.) also had a solid day at the plate, going 5-for-8 on the day including 4-for-5 in the second game, recording two doubles and an RBI.
In the second game, Bucknell held a short 3-1 lead over the Crusaders going into the top of the third until Holy Cross rallied in three runs to take the lead, 4-3. Oxford drove in two of the three runs in the inning, doubling up the right field line with the bases loaded, scoring junior Jake Gorman (Norfolk, Mass.) and McCrea. Freshman Nick Ciardellio (Edison, N.J.) scored the final run of the inning, grounding out to second base, scoring senior Brendan Akashian (Lowell, Mass.) from third base. Tied going into the ninth inning, Oxford doubled to left field, driving in Akashian from second base, who reached on a leadoff single and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by senior Gil Gomez (Lake Worth, Fla.).
