WORCESTER, Mass. - Senior second baseman Tucker Frawley (New Haven, Conn.) went three for five with a double, a run scored and four runs batted in, to lead the Holy Cross baseball team to a 12-8 victory over Hartford at Fitton Field. The Crusaders improve to 13-14-1 on the season with the win, while the Hawks fall to 4-21 overall.
The score was tied at 6-6 in the middle of the seventh inning, when the Holy Cross offense exploded for five runs to put the game away. Junior outfielder Norm Roth (Orange, Conn.) led off the inning with a walk, and came in to score the go-ahead run on an RBI double by sophomore first baseman Kyle Lister (Lincoln, R.I.). Junior catcher Brian Abraham (Worcester, Mass.) added a two-run double later in the inning, while senior shortstop Andrew Sweeney (Easton, Mass.) had an RBI single.
The Crusaders had jumped out to a 5-3 lead after two innings of play, with two runs in the first inning and three more in the second. Frawley had a two-run double in the first inning and a two-run single in the second, while junior outfielder Jamie Aldrich (Stratford, Conn.) added an RBI single in the second inning.
Sophomore righthanded pitcher Mike Thater (Danbury, Conn.) earned the win for Holy Cross, allowing five earned runs in seven innings of work. Bryan Bloch took the loss for Hartford, after giving up three earned runs on two hits in 1-2/3 innings of relief.
Bryan Propst led the Hartford offense by going three for five with a solo home run.
Holy Cross returns to action on Saturday, April 15, when it plays host to Army in a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m.
