Bradenton, Fla. - The Holy Cross baseball team dropped a heartbreaker in its 2005 opener, losing to the University of Nebraska-Omaha, 9-8 on Sunday. The Mavericks got an RBI single from Matt Meyer in the bottom of the ninth inning to rally UNO (6-2) over the Crusaders (0-1).
Nebraska-Omaha trailed 8-7 heading into the ninth before Lyle Lafountain tied the score with an RBI single. Lafountain finished the game 2-for-3 with a homerun and 2 RBI.
Mark Boehm (1-0) picked up his first win of the season after throwing the final two innings.
Holy Cross will play a doubleheader on Monday as it faces Georgetown (3:00 p.m.) and Connecticut (8:00).
