TEMPLE, Ariz. - The Holy Cross baseball team dropped a 15-0 decision to No. 5 Arizona State on Thursday night at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 0-6 on the season while the Sun Devils improve to 9-1 overall. Sophomore centerfielder Brendan McCrea (Hicksville, N.Y.) had a 2-for-3 day at the plate.
After two scoreless innings, ASU's offense heated up as Torrez reached first base on a one-out walk and then advanced to second base on a single by Newman. Advancing both runners on a wild pitch, MacPhee was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Kipnis hit a sacrifice fly out to left field, scoring Torrez, making the score 1-0. After a scoreless fourth inning, the Sun Devils put four more runs on the board in the fifth inning, taking a 5-0 lead. ASU scored three runs in the sixth inning, four in the seventh and three in the eighth inning to close out the game with a 15-0 home victory.
The Crusaders return to action on Friday, March 6, with a game against No. 5 Arizona State at 8:30 p.m.(ET)
