Baseball Drops 9-2 Decision To Campbell

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - The Holy Cross baseball team fell to Campbell, 9-2, this afternoon in non-conference action at Taylor Field. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 1-7 overall, while the Camels sweep the two-game series and improve to 4-10. Senior Andrew Tenaglia (Duxbury, Mass.) and junior Kyle Lister (Lincoln, R.I.) each had RBI doubles for the Crusaders, while senior Matt Perron (Auburn, Mass.) went 2-for-4.
The Camels scored two runs in the bottom of the first to jump out to a 2-0. Campbell then increased the lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the third when Carlton Floyd hit a two-run homer.
The Crusaders cut the deficit in half with two runs in the top of the fourth to make it a 4-2 game. Junior Brendan Akashian (Lowell, Mass.) started off the inning with a double to right field, while he advanced to third on a ground out. Tenaglia then drove Akashian in with a double to center field. Lister followed with a double of his own, bringing in Tenaglia. Campbell answered back to regain its four-run lead with two more runs in the bottom of the inning. The Camels would add two runs in the sixth and one in the eighth for the 9-2 final score.
Blake Herring earned a complete game win for Campbell, allowing two runs on eight hits with 12 strikeouts.
The Crusaders will wrap up their North Carolina road trip at Davidson, for a two-game series on March 7-8.
