TUSCON, Ariz. - The Holy Cross baseball team fell to Arizona, 8-1, on Wednesday night at Jerry Kindall Field. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 0-5 on the season while the Wildcats improve to 6-4. Senior catcher Tim Hughes (Andover, Mass.) led the team's offense with a 1-for-2 performance at the plate, driving in the lone Holy Cross run.
Arizona took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as leadoff hitter Hunter Pace reached first on a field error. Advancing to second and third on a throwing error, Pace scored on a double to left field by Brad Glenn. The Wildcats put up two more runs in the bottom of the second, making the score 3-0. With one out in the top of the fourth inning, senior Jake Gorman (Norfolk, Mass.) reached first base on a throwing error and then advanced to second. Reaching third on a wild pitch, Gorman scored on a single by Hughes to center field, making the score, 3-1. Scoring one run in the seventh inning and three to close out the eighth, the Wildcats picked up an 8-1 victory.
The Crusaders return to action on Thursday, March 5, opening a three-game series with Arizona State at 8:30 p.m.(ET)
