DELAND, Fla. - Sophomore Matt Perry (Sudbury, Mass.) went 2-for-4 including a leadoff double in the first inning but it wasn't enough as the Holy Cross baseball team lost to Stetson, 7-3, non-conference play. With the loss, the Crusaders falls 0-2, while the Hatters improve to 4-4.
Holy Cross jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning senior Brendan Akashian (Lowell, Mass.) singled to right field, bringing in Perry who hit a leadoff double to start the game. The Crusaders scored their second run of the inning when sophomore Mike Galvin (Newport, R.I.) grounded into a double play, scoring junior Jake Gorman (Norfolk, Mass.)
Stetson rallied in the third inning, scoring five runs, led by Brian Pruitt, who drove in three runs on a triple. The Hatters scored again in the fourth inning after Robert Crews scored on a wild pitch.
Pulgliese picked up his second win of the season as he pitched six innings, gave up six hits, three runs, and struck out one. Sophomore Bobby Holmes (Dedham, Mass.) received the loss for the Crusaders, pitching five and two thirds innings and giving up nine hits, six runs while striking out three and walking three batters.
Holy Cross returns to action tomorrow as it play host Rollins at 7:00 p.m.
