LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Senior Jake Gorman (Norfolk, Mass.) went 1-for-4 with a double, one run scored and drove in a run but it wasn't enough as the Holy Cross baseball team dropped a 14-3 game at Loyola Marymount on Sunday afternoon at Page Stadium. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 0-3 on the season while the Lions improve to 7-2.
Loyola grabbed a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, J. Johnson reached first on a single and then advanced to second on a single by K. Sparker. Reaching third on a double play, Johnson scored on a triple by Angelo Songco. Songco scored the second run of the inning on a single by T.J. Bernardy. The Lions scored again in the second inning with a leadoff single by Andrew Irvine. Irvine advanced two bases with a fielding error and a failed pickoff attempt and then scored on a single by Brad Bauer. The Crusaders got on the board in the top of the third inning as junior Matt Perry (Sudbury, Mass.) reached first base on a walk and then scored on a double by Gorman. A single by sophomore Nick Ciardiello (Edison, N.J.) scored Gorman, making the score, 3-2. The Lions kept Holy Cross scoreless in the top fourth inning and then scoring four in the bottom of the inning. The Crusaders scored in last run of the game in the top of the fifth as Loyola held Holy Cross scoreless for the rest of the game. The Lions put up seven more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, winning the game, 14-3.
The Crusaders return to action on Tuesday, March 3 at Arizona for a game at 9:00 p.m.(ET)
