WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross junior Jack St. Clair (Newton, Mass.) and sophomore Sean Gustin (Stoneham, Mass.) were both named to the 2014 baseball Academic All-Patriot League team, as voted on by the conference's sports information directors. To be eligible for the Academic All-Patriot League team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Both St. Clair and Gustin are graduates of the Belmont Hill School in Belmont, Mass.
St. Clair started in all 44 games this season, including 30 as the designated hitter. He batted .282 on the year and set career-highs with 25 runs, 42 hits, 12 doubles, one home run and 25 RBIs. St. Clair also posted a .383 slugging percentage and a .397 on-base percentage this season. He also held the longest reached-base streak by a Crusader this year at 24 consecutive games. St. Clair holds a 3.47 cumulative grade-point average and is a double-major in Mathematics and Economics. He was also named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team this season, while he earned Patriot League Academic Honor Roll laurels in 2013.
Gustin appeared in 20 games this season out of the bullpen and held the second lowest earned run average among relief pitchers at 2.41. He posted a 1-0 record and earned his first career save versus Marist on April 2. Gustin set career-highs with 18.2 innings pitched and 18 strikeouts this season. Named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in 2013, he holds a 3.60 cumulative grade-point average with a major in Economics and is the only Division I baseball player to also play Division I ice hockey in the country.
