WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross senior Nate Walker (San Diego, Calif.) was named the Patriot League Pitcher of the Week for competition from April 21-27, as announced by the league office. This marks the first time that Walker has received Pitcher of the Week honors.
Walker came two outs away from the first no-hitter by a Holy Cross pitcher since 2007 and ended up allowing just two hits and a walk in a complete-game shutout to lead the Crusaders past Bucknell 4-0 in Sunday's opener. Walker pitched 6.1 no-hit innings before giving up a pair of singles, but then induced a double-play to complete the shutout. He struck out a career-high six in his final start.
This season, Walker has appeared in nine games with eight starts and holds a 3-4 record in 38.2 innings pitched with 29 punchouts. For his career, Walker has pitched in 29 games with 18 starts on the mound. He has tossed 98.1 innings as a Crusader and has recorded 67 strikeouts.
Holy Cross will conclude the 2014 season with a 5:00 p.m. contest versus Connecticut on Wednesday, April 30 at Fitton Field.
