WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross freshman right handed pitcher Ben White (Holden, Mass.) was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week, for competition from March 24-31, as announced by the league office. This is the second time this season White has been named Rookie of the Week, as he also earned the honors on March 4.
White pitched well for the Crusaders in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader versus Lafayette. In 6.1 innings pitched, he allowed three runs (one earned), three hits and one walk, while striking out a career-best 10 batters. The 10 punchouts were the most by a Holy Cross pitcher this season in a single outing.
On the year, White ranks first on the team with a 3.45 earned run average in 31.1 innings pitched. He also leads Holy Cross with 24 strikeouts this season and an opposing batting average of .209 among starting pitchers.
The Crusaders return to action on Tuesday, April 1, as they will entertain Hartford at Fitton Field for a 5:00 p.m. first pitch.
