Former HC Baseball Coach, Fran O’Brien, Honored By ABCA

WORCESTER, Mass. – Former Holy Cross head baseball coach Fran O'Brien was recently named the recipient of the Ethics in Coaching Award, as announced by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA). O'Brien will receive the award at the ABCA National Convention held in Dallas, Texas in January.

O'Brien was on the Crusaders coaching staff from 1998-2004, including three seasons as the head baseball coach (2002-2004). Prior to his stint at Holy Cross, O'Brien was the head coach at MIT from 1969-1996, where he is still the winningest coach in program history. In 1993 he was named the NCAA New England Division III Baseball Coach of the Year after guiding his squad to the ECAC Division III Championship. He also coached in the Cape Cod Baseball League and was named Manager of the Year in 1990.

A 1955 graduate of Tufts, O'Brien was elected into the Massachusetts Baseball Hall of Fame in 1989.
