Stephen Wadsworth Awarded Robert T. Curran Leadership Honor

Stephen Wadsworth

WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross senior catcher/first baseman Stephen Wadsworth (Wayland, Mass.) has been awarded the Robert T. Curran Leadership Award. The award was established by Rick DeAngelis `70 in memory of Robert T. Curran, former baseball player, head coach and Hall of Famer who graduated from Holy Cross in 1948.

Curran was a two-sport captain for the Crusaders, serving in that capacity for the 1947-1948 men's basketball team, and the 1948 baseball squad. He was a three-year starter in baseball, and a key man on the Crusaders' 1947 NCAA men's basketball championship team which posted a 27-3 record. He would go on to coach the baseball team from 1967-1971 and was inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame in 2003. He passed away in 1977 and was a true leader, mentor, coach and molder of men.

The award, established in his name, is given to the player/players who most exemplify the former "Son of Holy Cross." It was given to Wadsworth this year for his true leadership and impact on the Holy Cross baseball program, not only on the field but off the field as well.

In his four-year career, Wadsworth batted .299 with 176 hits, 91 runs scored, 27 doubles, 12 home runs and 115 RBIs.
