WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross baseball team had eight representatives named to College Sports Madness' Patriot League All-Conference team, as announced by the website. Holy Cross senior first baseman Jordan Enos (Stockton, Calif.) was named Field Player of the Year, while senior co-captain John Colella (Herndon, Va.) earned Pitcher of the Year honors. Holy Cross head coach Greg DiCenzo was named Coach of the Year.
Enos, who also won Patriot League Player of the Year and Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors, is currently batting .341 with two homers, 36 runs batted in, 60 base-knocks and 32 runs scored. Enos is currently tied for first in his conference with 18 doubles while he is also third in RBIs, fourth in both total bases (81) and batting average.
Colella, who was also recognized as the first-ever reliever to garner Patriot League Pitcher of the Year laurels, has posted a 2-3 mark with 51 strikeouts in 45.1 innings to go with a 3.57 earned run average and eight saves in 23 appearances. In league action, Colella was nearly untouchable as he went 2-0 with six stops in addition to yielding just two earned runs and 24 strikeouts in 21 frames of work.
DiCenzo, who also received the nod as the Patriot League Coach of the Year, piloted Holy Cross to an overall mark of 28-23 and 15-5 in conference play. He has guided the Crusaders to the Patriot League championship series in three of the last four seasons and holds a 151-147-1 record overall.
Headlining the first team for Holy Cross were Colella, Enos, senior outfielder Patrick Puentes (East Greenbush, N.Y.) and sophomore outfielder Evan Ocello (Camarillo, Calif.). Sophomore pitcher Donny Murray (Walpole, Mass.), junior third baseman Mike Ahmed (East Longmeadow, Mass.), senior catcher Stephen Wadsworth (Wayland, Mass.) and third-year outfielder Brandon Cipolla (Abington, Mass.) were selected to the second team.
Holy Cross will return to action on Sunday, May 19, as it will host Army in the championship round of the Patriot League Baseball Tournament. The Crusaders and Black Knights will play a doubleheader on Sunday at Fitton Field beginning at 1:00 p.m. If necessary, the two teams will face off in the third game of the best-of-three series on Monday, May 20 at 1:00 p.m.
