WORCESTER, Mass. - Senior outfielder Patrick Puentes (East Greenbush, N.Y.) has been named the AT&T Crusader of the Week, for competition from May 6-12. Puentes went five for eight with three runs scored and four runs batted in to lead the Holy Cross baseball team to a sweep of Bucknell on Saturday in the Patriot League semifinals.
Puentes was also named College Sports Madness' Patriot League Player of the Week for the second time this season. The senior first claimed the award on April 9.
During the Crusaders' 9-6 victory in the opener, Puentes went three for four with a walk and four runs batted in. He had an RBI triple in the third inning, a two-run single in the fourth inning and an RBI single in the eighth inning. Then in Holy Cross' 3-0 win the night cap, Puentes was two for four with a stolen base and two runs scored.
On the season, Puentes is batting .314 with a team-high seven home runs, 30 runs scored and 33 runs batted in. Over the course of his collegiate career, he is hitting .307 with 26 doubles, 17 home runs, 89 runs scored and 94 runs batted in.
Holy Cross' returns to action on Wednesday, May 15, when it faces Maine at Goodall Park in Sanford, Maine, at 6:00 p.m.
