WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross sophomore pitcher Donny Murray (Walpole, Mass.) was named Patriot League Pitcher of the Week for competition from April 22-28. Murray earns the award for the first time in his career as he helped the Crusaders claim the Patriot League regular-season title for the first time in school history.
Murray pitched the opening contest of Sunday's doubleheader versus Army and dominated the Black Knight batters. He tossed a complete game seven inning one-hitter versus Army, which clinched the regular-season title for Holy Cross. Murray gave up his only hit in the fifth inning, as he walked two and struck out five batters. He picked up his fifth win of the season and also pitched his first career complete game shutout.
For the season, Murray holds a 5-3 record with a 4.94 ERA over 58.1 innings pitched. He has appeared in 11 games and has made nine starts, while recording a career-best 45 strikeouts.
Holy Cross will play a pair of non-conference games this week, beginning with a trip to Connecticut on Wednesday, May 1 at 3:00 p.m. The Crusaders will host Anna Maria on Saturday, May 4 at 12:00 p.m. at Fitton Field.
