WORCESTER, Mass. - Senior righthanded pitcher John Colella (Herndon, Va.) has been named the AT&T Crusader of the Week, for competition from April 15-21. Colella recorded three saves in three appearances last week, while helping the Holy Cross baseball team to a perfect 6-0 mark in six games.
During the opener of Saturday's doubleheader against Lehigh, Colella threw one scoreless inning to earn the save in the 3-1 victory. He then pitched 1-1/3 shutout innings in Saturday's nightcap, a 9-6 Holy Cross win. Colella closed out the weekend by tossing 2-1/3 scoreless innings as the Crusaders won 3-2 in the opener of Sunday's doubleheader. On the week, he pitched a total of 4-2/3 innings, allowing no runs on two hits with six strikeouts.
On the season, Colella now stands 2-3 with a 4.10 earned run average, four saves and 39 strikeouts in 37-1/3 innings pitched. Over the course of his collegiate career, he owns an 11-8 record with a 3.83 earned run average, 24 saves and 145 strikeouts over 155 innings.
Holy Cross (22-20 overall, 12-4 Patriot League) returns to action on Tuesday, April 23, when it faces Maine at Goodall Park in Sanford, Maine, at 5:30 p.m.
