Patrick Puentes Named ECAC Baseball Player Of The Week
WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross senior outfielder Patrick Puentes (East Greenbush, N.Y.) was named ECAC Division I Baseball Player of the Week, for competition from April 1-7. This is the first time Puentes has received ECAC laurels in his career as he helped lead the Crusaders to a 4-2 record on the week and a 3-1 mark in the Patriot League twinbill versus Lafayette.
Puentes was also selected by Collegiate Baseball as Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week and was named Patriot League Player of the Week for his performance.
For the week, Puentes batted 10-for-22 (.455) with seven runs, two doubles, a triple, three home runs and 11 RBIs. His best performance came during the Sunday doubleheader at Lafayette. In the first contest, Puentes went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs. He followed that with his best performance in a Holy Cross uniform as he hit for the cycle in the second game and batted 5-for-5 with four runs, two homers and six RBIs.
During the 2012-2013 season, Puentes holds a .265 batting average with 27 hits, 18 runs, five doubles, six home runs and 22 RBIs. His home run total ranks first on the team and in the Patriot League, three ahead of the next closest player. His six homers this season ties him for 10th on the Holy Cross single season home run list, four away from equaling the record of 10 long balls.
Holy Cross is in first place in the Patriot League with a 6-2 record after two weekends of games. The Crusaders are also 14-17 overall and have won 12 of their last 16 games. Holy Cross returns to action on Wednesday, April 10, when it hosts Dartmouth at Fitton Field with the first pitch slated for 4:00 p.m.
