WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross baseball team was projected to finish in first place in the Patriot League by Collegiate Baseball magazine as published in the Jan. 4, 2013 issue. The Crusaders finished as runner-ups to Army in the Patriot League Championship in 2012 and look to capture their first crown since joining the conference during the 1991 season.

The magazine also projected junior infielder Mike Ahmed (East Longmeadow, Mass.) as the Patriot League Player of the Year. As a sophomore in 2012, Ahmed was named to the first team All-Patriot League as he hit .295 with seven home runs, 13 doubles, 26 RBIs and seven stolen bases. Ahmed and senior pitcher John Colella (Herndon, Va.) were named captains for the 2013 squad.

The magazine also listed Colella, seniors Jordan Enos (Stockton, Calif.), Alex Maldonado (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Tom Marra (Sea Cliff, N.Y.); junior Brandon Cipolla (Abington, Mass.) and sophomore Donny Murray (Walpole, Mass.) as top players to watch for the 2013 season.

After winning a school-record 33 games in 2012, the Crusaders were also mentioned in the Boston Herald as one of the year's top 10 moments in college sports for 2012. Click here to view the link.
