WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross baseball team has released its 2013 schedule, announced by athletic director Richard M. Regan Jr. and head coach Greg DiCenzo. The squad will play in 51 total games, beginning with a trip to Blacksburg, Va. to compete against Virginia Tech and Temple from Feb. 23-24.
After double headers versus the Hokies and the Owls, the team will embark on a one week trip through Nevada and California. On March 2-3, the team will play a three-game series at Nevada, before heading to San Luis Obispo, Calif. to face Cal-Poly on March 5-6. After that two-game series, the Crusaders will make the trip to San Diego, as they will take on the likes of Michigan, St. Louis as well as the host Toreros from March 7-10.
Holy Cross returns back to the northeast to play a three-game tilt versus St. John's on March 16-17, before its home opener against rival Boston College on March 19. The Crusaders will then play a home-and-home series versus Yale on March 23-24, host UMass on March 26 and travel to Harvard on March 27. Holy Cross begins Patriot League action with home doubleheaders on March 30-31 against Bucknell.
The squad then will play a pair of road contests versus Hartford (April 2) and Marist (April 3), before making the trek to Easton, Pa. to face Lafayette on April 6-7. Holy Cross will play two non-conference games on April 9 (at Central Connecticut) and April 10 (vs. Dartmouth), before it matches-up with Navy in doubleheaders on April 13-14 at Fitton Field. After the Crusaders play Brown on April 17, they will entertain Lehigh during the weekend of April 20-21. Holy Cross' final two non-conference games will take place on April 23, versus Maine at Hadlock Park, and on April 24 against Siena in Worcester. The Crusaders conclude the regular season with a rematch of the 2012 Patriot League Championship, as they will travel to Army on April 27-28.
After the series against the Black Knights, Holy Cross will aim to reach the Patriot League Baseball Tournament for the fifth time in six years under DiCenzo. The league semifinals will take place on May 11-12, while the championship game is during the weekend of May 18-19.
The Crusaders finished the 2012 season with a 33-22 record, with their wins total being the most in the program's 126-year history. Holy Cross also looks to claim its first Patriot League Championship as it fell one game short a season ago. The 2013 squad will be led by senior John Colella (Herndon, Va.) and Mike Ahmed (East. Longmeadow, Mass.), both of whom were named co-captains.
