BROCKTON, Mass.- Recent Holy Cross graduate and baseball player Steve Tkowski (Bourne, Mass.) was named the NEIBA All-Star Game Offensive MVP at the conclusion of the 38th annual NEIBA All-Star game, held June 11 at Campanelli Stadium. Tkowski hit a three-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the University team up, 3-1, over the College team. Tkowski's home run put the University side up for good as the squad went on to win the nine-inning affair, 5-3.
Head coach Greg DiCenzo, recently named the NEIBA Division I Coach of the Year, skippered the University team, which was made up of 12 Division I players. Rising seniors Alex Maldonado (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and John Colella (Herndon, Va.) also participated in the game. Maldonado spent all nine-innings at shortstop while Colella pitched the ninth inning.
The University team won its 23rd game in the history of the NEIBA All-Star Game. DiCenzo's squad broke up a two-game slide against the College squad as they won both the 2010 and 2011 All-Star games.
