WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior outfielder Patrick Puentes (East Greenbush, N.Y.) has been named the Patriot League Player of the Week announced by the conference for competition from April 9-15. Puentes led the Crusaders offense in five offensive categories last week including batting average (.440), hits (11), runs (7), slugging percentage (.640) and total bases (16).
Puentes notched at least one hit in every game last week, including multi-hit games in four of the six contests. He went deep for his first home run of the season at Dartmouth and also tallied two doubles in the 6-3 win over Navy on April 14. He has hit safely in eight straight contests and drove in four runs, three coming against the Mids over the weekend. He helped the Crusaders go 3-1 in league action as the team now sits in second place with an 8-4 conference record. The honor is Puentes' first career nod from the league.
On the season, Puentes bats a team-best .340 and has combined for 21 runs, 34 hits and 13 RBI. He has made no errors in the outfield for Holy Cross, appearing in 30 games while starting 26 overall.
Holy Cross (21-16 overall, 8-4 Patriot League) returns to action on Wednesday, April 18, when it plays in a non-conference doubleheader against Ivy League opponent Brown. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m. in Providence, R.I.
