WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior Holy Cross pitcher, John Colella (Herndon, Va.), has been named the College Baseball Insider Northeast Pitcher of the Week, announced by the CBI staff. He earns the honor for the first time in his career after posting two saves and one win in spring break action.
Colella collected two saves and a win in four appearances. He allowed one hit in 3.2 scoreless frames for a save at Charlotte. Colella tossed two shutout innings with three strikeouts in a 3-0 win at Winthrop on Friday. In Sunday's series finale, Colella allowed one hit and fanned three in a 4-3 win over the Eagles in 10 innings. On the week, Colella pitched a team-high 9.1 innings, allowing three runs on five hits and striking out 10 batters for a 2.89 ERA. He struck out the most batters by a Crusader reliever on the week and combined for his first career shutout on Wednesday. Colella posts a 2.51 ERA on the season, second lowest on the team and boasts a team-best three saves.
The Crusaders, who are now 5-6 on the season, return to action during the weekend of March 17-18, competing in the Red Storm Invitational with host St. John's and Albany. The first game of the series is set for Saturday, March 17, as the Crusaders will take on the Great Danes at 4:00 p.m. All games will be held at Kaiser Stadium in Queens, N.Y.
