Steve Tkowski Named To 2012 Johnny Bench Award Watch List

WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross senior catcher Steve Tkowski (Bourne, Mass) has been named to the 2012 Johnny Bench Award watch list. The award, sponsored by BaseballSavings.com, is given annually to the top division one collegiate catcher. Johnny Bench presented James Madison catcher, Jake Lowery, with the award last June in Wichita, Kansas.

Tkowski joins a list of 43 other catchers nominated by their coaches. He joins J.T. Watkins of Army as the only catcher's named to the list from the Patriot League. The award honors players who compete as a team's starting catcher in 75 percent of the games. Tkowski has currently started in five games this season in the catcher's role. He has collected 31 putouts and six assists.

The Crusaders, who are now 3-5 on the season, return to action on Friday, March 9, beginning a three-game set against Winthrop. Friday's contest will begin at 6:00 p.m. at the Winthrop Ballpark in Rock Hill, S.C.
