WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross senior Nick Ciardiello (Edison, N.J.) has been selected to the 2011 Capital One Academic All-District I baseball second team, announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America. The team is comprised of players from Division I schools in the states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont. This is the third consecutive season Ciardiello has received the honor, as he was named to the first team as a freshman and sophomore.
A three-time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and Dean's List, Ciardiello has made 48 starts in 48 appearances this season. Leading the team with a .345 batting average, Ciardiello collected 58 hits and 43 RBI in 168 at-bats. He also combined for 98 total bases and a .583 slugging percentage. He broke the Holy Cross career home run record as well, finishing his career with 24 long balls. Academically, he has a 3.48 grade point average and is majoring in Mathematics.
Ciardiello and the three other members of the senior class wrapped up their careers this past weekend, taking three out of four games from Lehigh. The team closed out the 2011 campaign with a 24-23-1 record, finishing with an above .500 record for the first time since 1991.
