WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross sophomore catcher Stephen Wadsworth (Wayland, Mass.) has been named the College Baseball Insider's Northeast Regional Player of the Week for the first time in his career. He wins the award after being named the Patriot League Player of the Week, announced on Monday.
Wadsworth batted .632 (12-for-19) in Holy Cross' five games last week, scoring a run in all five games and had four multiple-RBI games to close the week with 10 total RBI. He sparked the Crusaders' to three crucial league victories against Bucknell by going three-for-four with one run in Holy Cross' 8-5 win in Saturday's opener, and then hit a home run in an 8-5 loss in the nightcap. He then went five-for-seven with four runs scored, a home run and six RBI in Sunday's sweep, including a four-for-four game with three runs scored and four RBI in a 13-7 victory in the finale.
On the season, Wadsworth bats .288 with 17 runs, 30 hits and 14 RBI. He has started in 29 games behind the dish for the team this year.
Holy Cross (15-17-1, 3-5 PL) travels to Patriot League foe Lafayette (11-17, 5-3 PL) for a weekend doubleheader series beginning Saturday, April 16. First pitch will be at 12:00 p.m. at Kamine Stadium in Easton, Pa.
