WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross junior John Pedrotty (Portsmouth, R.I.) and freshman third baseman Kyle Stearns (Orland Park, Ill.) took home two of the three honors handed out by the Patriot League this week, earning Patriot League Pitcher and Rookie of the Week. Both players were instrumental in the team's lone game of the week, a 5-1 win over Villanova on Saturday, March 5.
Pedrotty earned his first victory as a starting pitcher by allowing just one run in 7.2 innings in the 5-1 win over Villanova. He scattered five hits and two walks while striking out four in the game, recording career highs for both strikeouts and innings pitched. Pedrotty wins the Pitcher of the Week award for the first time and is Holy Cross' first recipient of the honor since 2008.
Stearns played a key role in Holy Cross' win, bringing in the first two runs of the game with the first triple of the season for the Crusaders. His two RBI were a single-game high for the season and Stearns leads all Holy Cross freshmen with a .273 batting average while making three starts and four appearances at third base. He earns his first Rookie of the Week award.
Holy Cross wraps up action in Wilmington, N.C. this afternoon with a match-up against host North-Carolina Wilmington. First pitch is set for 4:00 p.m. at Brooks Field.
