Baseball Picked Third In Patriot League Preseason Poll
WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross baseball team was selected to finish third in the 2011 Patriot League preseason poll as voted on by head coaches and sports information directors from around the league. The Crusaders made it to the Patriot League Championship series last season for the first time in school history after being picked third in the 2010 preseason poll.
Army was picked first for the second straight season, earning 45 points and six first-place votes. Reigning Patriot League champion, Bucknell, was selected to finish second with 43 points and five first-place votes while Holy Cross earned one first place vote and a total of 36 points. Rounding out the voting was Lehigh (23), Navy (21) and Lafayette (12).
The Crusaders completed the 2010 season with a 26-26 overall record, going 10-10 in the Patriot League. Head coach Greg Dicenzo enters his fourth season at the helm of the Holy Cross baseball team and returns 20 letterwinners to his lineup and adds 12 newcomers. The team will officially begin the 2011 season at Louisiana State for a three-game series beginning Feb. 25 and continuing through Feb. 27. The first game will start at 8:00 p.m. EST at Alex Box Stadium in Baton Rouge, La.
