Ciardiello & Perry Garner Second Team All-New England Honors

WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross junior outfielder Nick Ciardiello (Edison, N.J.) and senior third baseman Matt Perry (Sudbury, Mass.) have been selected second team All-New England, as announced by the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association. Both players will now take part in the 2010 New England All-Star Game, which will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 6, at Fenway Park in Boston, Mass. Holy Cross head coach Greg DiCenzo will also skipper the University team at the All-Star game alongisde Bryant head coach Jamie Pinzino.

Perry earns the second team honor for the second consecutive season after posting a .409 batting average with 81 hits, 54 runs and 36 RBI. He was a unanimous choice for the first team All-Patriot League and registered a Holy Cross single-season record number of games played and started (52), at-bats (198), runs scored (54), hits (81) and total bases (116). He finishes his Holy Cross career with a .365 batting average, a .537 in slugging percentage, a .439 on-base percentage and 100 RBI.

Ciardiello, who was named to the second team All-Patriot League, completed his junior campaign with a .368 batting average with 68 hits, 39 runs scored and a Holy Cross single-season record 57 RBI. He doubled his career numbers this season, and now holds a .300 career batting average with 105 hits, including 16 home runs, 87 RBI and a .517 slugging percentage.

The Holy Cross baseball team concluded the 2010 season with an even 26-26 overall record after going 3-3 in the Patriot League Tournament and 10 wins and 10 losses in Patriot League regular season play. The team made its first-ever appearance in the Patriot League Baseball championship series and finished with the most wins since the 1978 season.
