Nick Ciardiello Named To CoSIDA Academic All-District Baseball Team
WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross junior Nick Ciardiello (Edison, N.J.) has been selected to the 2010 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I first team, announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America. The team is comprised of players from Division I schools in the states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont. This is the second consecutive season Ciardiello has received the honor, as he was named to the first team as a sophomore as well.
A member of the 2008 and 2009 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and three-time Dean's List member, Ciardiello has made 43 starts in 45 appearances this season. Batting .388, he has totaled 64 hits, 56 runs batted in, marking a Holy Cross single-season record, 37 runs scored, 20 doubles, 10 home runs and one stolen base on the season. Totaling a team-best 114 bases, Ciardiello has a slugging percentage of .691 and with just two errors on the season, he has a .966 fielding percentage. Academically, he has a 3.52 grade point average and is majoring in Mathematics.
By earning Academic All-District Honors, Ciardiello will be on the ballot for Academic All-America Honors. The Academic All-America team will be announced on May 27.
The Crusaders return to action on May 15-16 when they travel to Lehigh for the Patriot League tournament semifinals for a best-of-three series. A doubleheader is scheduled for Saturday, May 15 at 12:00 p.m. and, if necessary, a third game is scheduled for Sunday, May 16 at 3:00 p.m.
