Community Service Activities
At the College of the Holy Cross, the athletic department prides itself on giving back to the local community. Student-athletes, coaches and other members of the athletic staff participate in a variety of activities throughout the year.
Below is a listing of activities where Holy Cross athletic teams have been involved in community service projects during the 2009-2010 school year.
- The team maintains their relationship with the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program.
- 9/13/09: The team took part in the Annual UMASS Walk for Cancer.
- Sep. ‘09: Members of the team, along with Coaches Sanchez and Daiganault, attended and spoke at the five Worcester High School Athletic Wellness Meetings/Education Youth Workshops throughout the month.

- 10/14/09: Coach Gibbons and members of the team hosted an
afternoon with 50 students from Worcester Middle School. They got a

- Fall '09: Each Friday before a home game, members of the team visited various schools doing Trivia for Tickets to help get the community more involved with HC Football.
- Members of the team took part in the after school programs at the Nativity School and local YMCA a few days a week.
- 10/24/09: Members of the team wore pink shoe laces in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month.
- The team maintained their relationship with the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program.
- 12/10/09: Sophomore Madison Horl organized the annual Benching
for Breast Cancer event, which raised over $1,500 to help fight

- Members of the team took part in Crusaders for Kids, a Big Brother program set up by the players to bring inner city kids to other sporting events on campus as well as in the community.

- 9/26/09: Members of the team took part in the Annual Rodman Ride for Kids to raise money for children-at-risk charities.

- 11/8/09: Members of the team volunteered at the Open House
event for Wings & Hooves. Wings and Hooves Therapeutic Riding,
Inc. aims to enhance the lives of individuals with physical,
emotional, and developmental challenges by building confidence
through equine-assisted activities and partnerships. The team split
up and worked at cookie and hoof decorating booths, Toss the Poop
and Pin the Tail on the Donkey stations and did face painting and
bake sales. It was a beautiful day to be outside and be able to
meet and give the horses carrot treats! Photo

- Sept. '09: The swimming and diving teams hosted their Annual Worcester County Swim League Competition.
- Spring '10: The team took part in the Annual DEAFinitley Swimming Program, providing one-on-one swimming lessons for deaf kids in the community.
- Members of both teams volunteered with SPUD throughout the school year.
