WORCESTER, Mass. - A number of athletes and coaches with Holy Cross ties will be honored by the Boys & Girls Club of Worcester at its Celebrity Sports Nite, to be held on Wednesday, Sept. 26, at 6:00 p.m. at the Wachusett Country Club in West Boylston. The event will recognize a whole range of current and former Central Mass. sports stars who continue to give back to the community.
Honorees from Holy Cross include former two-way football star and Heisman Trophy candidate Gordie Lockbaum; basketball and baseball greats Ron Perry Sr. and Ron Perry Jr.; and associate athletic director Ann Zelesky.
Other individuals who will be recognized at the event are former St. Peter’s High athlete, Holy Name basketball coach and Toronto Blue Jays general manager J.P. Ricciardi; former one-time Assumption basketball All-American John Grochowalski; former Oxford High and UConn basketball star Carla Berube; longtime sports official and current NFL umpire Paul King Jr.; former Worcester Academy and UConn basketball coach Donald “Dee” Rowe; current Notre Dame Academy athletic director and coach and National Field Hockey Coaches Hall of Famer Patty Provost; former two-time national amateur boxing champion and current world-ranked super middleweight contender Edwin Rodriguez; and retired three-time world champion (IBO, WBA) José Antonio Rivera.
Tickets are $50.00 each, or $360.00 for a table of eight, and are available at the Boys & Girls Club, 65 Tainter Strett, Worcester. Proceeds will go toward club activities for youngsters.
