Two Crusaders Named To Academic All-District Team

WORCESTER, Mass. – Two Holy Cross student-athletes have been selected to the 2010-2011 Capital One Academic All-District I at-large teams, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Junior men’s ice hockey player Mike Daly (South Burlington, Vt.) was a first team selection, while senior men’s lacrosse player Conor McKenna (Summit, N.J.) was named to the second team. The teams are comprised of players from Division I schools in the states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont. The team includes student-athletes from the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling.

Daly played in all 38 games for the men’s ice hockey team on defense, finishing the season with three goals and 15 assists for 18 points. He helped lead the team to an overall record of 17-16-5, a third-place finish in the Atlantic Hockey Association at 14-8-5, and a trip to the Atlantic Hockey semifinals. Daly won the 2010-2011 Joe Tomasello Unsung Hero Award from the New England Hockey Writers and is a two-time member of the Atlantic Hockey All-Academic team. Over the course of his collegiate career, he has now totaled 38 point on eight goals and 30 assists. Off the ice, Daly owns a 3.83 cumulative grade point average with a major in economics.

McKenna played all 15 games with 11 starts for the men’s lacrosse squad this season, ranking third on the team with 28 ground balls and causing four turnovers. A senior captain for the Crusaders, he was also named to the inaugural Patriot League All-Academic team in 2011. During his four-year career at Holy Cross, McKenna played in all 59 of the team’s games, totaling 10 goals and 14 assists for 24 points and picking up 112 ground balls. A three-time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, he owns a 3.88 cumulative grade point average with a double major in economics and mathematics.
