Annie Lavigne was a four-year starter and defensive stalwart on the Crusader field hockey team from 1997-2000. She led Holy Cross to three Patriot League Tournament titles and two Patriot League regular season championships, with the team posting an overall record of 49-33 during her four years. Lavigne served as team captain during her senior season, when she was also named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year and the Patriot League Tournament most valuable player. A three-time All-Patriot League and two-time All-New England selection, she ranked third all-time at Holy Cross in career interceptions (520) and seventh in career points scored (57) at the time of her graduation. Lavigne also received the 2001 Honorable John P. Cooney Memorial Award from the Varsity Club.
