"Rocks" Gallagher was an inspiration to the 1947 NCAA Championship men's basketball team. He was considered an invaluable sixth man on the court, despite being blind. Coach Julian, Joe Mullaney, Bob Curran, Frank Oftring, George Kaftan and Bob Cousy (All in the Hall of Fame) were some of the people with whom Gallagher associated. After graduation, he served the Executive Director for the American Association for the Blind, and was considered a world leader in the field of blindness. Gallagher received frequent invitations to speak both in the United States and abroad on blindness issues. He passed away in 1997.
