Biography

Murray excelled in both football and baseball. In football, he played for three years on teams that had a record of 21-6-3. One of those tie games was played against previously unbeaten Fordham at the Polo Grounds in New York, when the Rams were among the big Eastern football powers. On that occasion he ran 78 yards for a touchdown that gave Holy Cross the lead, but Fordham later tied the score. In his three years at Holy Cross his football teams never lost to Boston College. All were close scores, with one of them a scoreless tie in the zero weather at Fitton Field. He starred in the 27-0 upset victory over Harvard when he was a sophomore. In baseball he was an outfielder and one of the leading hitters on the team during his three years as a varsity player. After leaving Holy Cross entered medical school and spent his career as a physician.
