Biography

Hughes became an immediate factor on the Crusader tennis team as a sophomore, winning 11-of-12 matches, and teaming with classmate John Mayotte to compile a 7-0 record in doubles including the Western New England Doubles Championship.  As a junior, he led Holy Cross to an 11-2 record and fourth place finish in the New England Tournament while he and Mayotte were runners-up in the New England Double Championship.

In his senior year, Hughes was unbeaten, and the team compiled a 13-0 record and was ranked #1 in New England. It marked the first unbeaten season in Holy Cross tennis history. Jughes lost only one singles match during his varsity career and played on teams which compiled a 35-4 record overall including a streak of 21 consecutive victories.
