Biography
A two-sport athlete in football and
track at Holy Cross, Mahaney was best known for his exploits on the
gridiron. From 1921-1924, he played on football teams that
never finished with a losing record, going 27-8-2. In his
junior season, Holy Cross finished 8-2, its first eight-win
campaign since 1903. Captain of the team his senior year, he
led the Crusaders to a 7-1-1 record, including a 33-0 shutout of
Boston College in the final game of his career.
A native of Biddeford, Maine, Mahaney returned home after
graduation and eventually pursued a successful career in law.
