Biography

O’Melia prepped at Keith Academy in Lowell, MA and was a three-year starter at end for legendary coach, Dr. Edward Anderson. O’Melia played on teams that were 24-2-4 captaining the 1937 squad to an 8-0-2 record. The tough defensive end played in the college All-Star Game against New York Giants and then returned to his alma mater as an assistant coach. O’Melia lost his life in World War II and subsequently he was honored with the creation of the O’Melia Award, which was given to the Most Valuable Player in the Holy Cross-Boston College game until the series ended in 1986.
