Biography

Gildea was one of the first great centers in Holy Cross history. The Crusaders were 17-9 during his four years. The “Iron Major” Frank Cavanaugh ranked him as one of the best blockers he ever saw. After graduation, he coached at Fitchburg and Leominster High Schools before he followed his Holy Cross coach Frank Cavanaugh as coach of Everett High. He coached Everett High for 29 years and accumulated a record of 163-72-29. He was a winner of a Coach of the Year Award from the Holy Cross Varsity Club and was inducted into the Massachusetts State Football Coaches Hall of Fame.
