Taffe became the first female athlete ever inducted into the Varsity Club Hall of Fame in 1988. A native of Haverhill, Mass., she was a three-year swimming captain who earned AIAW All-American honors in the 50, 100 and 200-yard breaststroke events at the 1981 Division III National Championships.  She graduated that year with the school record in the 50-yard breakstroke while also becoming the first woman to be named Crusader of the Year.  After graduating from Holy Cross, Taffe earned her master’s degree in Biology from Lowell University and graduated from medical school.
