Alzerini was a three-year starter at end for Holy Cross.   The Crusaders  compiled a 17-10-2 overall record during his career. He earned All-America honors as a senior in 1929. He played all three of his varsity years for famed coach Cleo O’Donnell, who called Alzerini the best end he had ever coached.  Alzerini also played one year of varsity baseball for Jack Barry in 1928. That team went 19-3 as he played alongside fellow Varsity Club Hall of Famers “Blondy” Ryan, “Red” Desautels and “Con” Hurley.  He passed away just three years after graduation, succumbing to tuberculosis.
