Holy Cross Rowing Competes at Head of the Charles

BOSTON, Mass. - The Holy Cross men and women's rowing team competed in the annual Head of the Charles regatta this past weekend. The Head of the Charles is the largest two-day regatta and attracts the best teams from around the world.

In Saturday's competition, Holy Cross finished 45th out of 69 boats in the Men's Club Eight race, with a time of 16:40.826. The Crusaders' boat was composed of sophomore coxswain Buddy Dolan (Northbrook, Ill.), senior Terry Therian (Columbia, Conn.), freshman Sean Corwen (Princeton, N.J.), sophomore Clint McCabe (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.), freshman Dan Ryan (Wilmette, Ill.), Charles Ullman, sophomore Pete Haney (Oreland, Pa.), junior Eddie Pinero (Forestdale, Mass.) and senior Christopher Sieck (Haddonfield, N.J.).

For the women's team, Holy Cross finished 33rd out of 45 boats in the Women's Club Eight race, with a time of 19:14.520. The Crusaders boat was composed of Laura LeBourdais, Mara Hogan, senior Lis Flaherty (Lincolnwood, Ill.), junior Abby Hammond (Holliston, Mass.), junior Ashley Fish (Hingham, Mass.), freshman Jaqueline Esperti (Charlton, N.Y.), senior Mary Kate Cullen (Long Valley, N.J.), sophomore Jackie Jankowski (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and sophomore Nicole Gabana (East Stroudsburg).

On Sunday, the men finished 32nd out of 37 boats in the Men's Championship Eight race, with a time of 15:47.361. Holy Cross' boat was composed of sophomore coxswain Mary Carol Madigan (Kenilworth, Ill.), junior Daniel McGlinn (Ambler, Pa.), junior D.J. Estes (Falmouth, Mass.), senior co-captain Erick Winstead (Fairfield, Conn.), senior Wade Lucas (Portland, Maine), senior James Eagan (Norwich, Conn.), junior Garrett Pearce (Haworth, N.J.), senior co-captain Adam Furlong (Pittstown, N.J.) and senior Christian Bratton (Philadelphia, Pa.).

In the women's competition on Sunday, the Crusaders finished 38th out of 38 boats in the Championship Eight race with a time 18:19.549. In the Lightweight Eight race, the Crusaders' placed 14th out of 14 boats, finishing with a time of 19:36.146. Holy Cross' boat was composed of senior Katie Donnelly (Marstons Mills, Mass.), junior Monika Mangsen (Holden, Mass.), sophomore Katherine Byrns (Manhasset, N.Y.), senior Johanna Cubelli (Boonton Township, N.J.), freshman Beth Charron (Manchester, N.H.), freshman Meaghan Pedlow (Charlotte, N.C.), Gosha Smas, senior Clare Bracikowski (Brentwood, Tenn.) and junior Mara Piltin (Medford, N.J.). In the Lightweight Eight race, the Crusaders' placed 14th out of 14 boats, finishing with a time of 19:36.146, just behind the Lake Union Crew (19:34.146). Holy Cross' boat was composed of freshman Amanda Woodgate (Duxbury, Mass.), senior co-captain Kelly St. Germain (Cambridge, Mass.), senior Meredith Malysz (Wilbraham, Mass.), senior Jennifer Beaudoin (Holdon, Mass.), Sarah Palilla, Claire Moynihan, junior Jessica Ripp (Amherst, N.H.), Callie Gorman and freshman Sarah Cicchetti (Farmington, Conn.).

Holy Cross returns to action as it competes in the Princeton Chase Regatta in Princeton, N.J., scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m.
